Opening Meeting Kicks Off A Year of Community Building and Activism
Friends old and new gathered on October 13th for the Sacramento Section Opening Meeting. After some noshing and kibbitzing, we got down to business: celebrating our NCJW sisters while setting the stage for a year of improving the quality of life for women, children, and families.
Section President Jessica Heskin kicked things off by thanking everyone for their generous donations for residents of Trellis Garden, a Women’s Empowerment housing community, including paper towels, toilet paper, and gift cards for residents to shop for other necessary items. She also introduced the Board and, together, we all toasted the memory of Past President, Anne Eisenberg, who passed away this summer. The Board announced the creation of the Anne Eisenberg NCJW Sacramento Section Leadership and Sustainability Fund. We also remembered with appreciation our immediate past treasurer, Karen Oakley, who also died this year. We paired up for a fun NCJW quiz and then Committee chairs told us about the projects and events planned for the upcoming year.
Finally, we got to work and wrote Get Out the Vote postcards and took some home to friends and family to ensure they were in the mail in plenty of time for the election.
It was an energetic start to an impactful and meaningful year ahead!
