NCJW Celebrates as Living Hostages Released After Two Years in Captivity
WASHINGTON, DC — Today, after more than two years in captivity, the 20 living people still held hostage by Hamas have finally returned home to Israel.
In reaction to their release, Jody Rabhan, executive vice president at National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) — the nation’s leading Jewish feminist civil rights organization representing 250,000 changemakers from across the United States and Israel — released the following statement:
“After over two years of tears, prayers, heartbreak, and war, today is a day we have all been waiting for. With all of the remaining living people held hostage now freed from Hamas captivity, we can finally imagine a pathway toward lasting peace and security for all Israelis and Palestinians. As the reconciliation and rebuilding process fully takes shape, NCJW remains firm that Hamas must be held accountable for the kidnapping, torture, mutilation, rape, and murder of Israelis perpetrated on October 7, 2023.
“With optimism in our hearts, we eagerly await the long-overdue reunions of those freed from captivity and their communities who have ached for their return. We pray for a future where safety and peace are shared by all. It is our immense hope that this moment marks a new beginning for the whole region.”
