Closing Meeting Celebrates Our National and Local Movement

More than 40 NCJW members and friends gathered at the McKinley Village Clubhouse on the evening of June 18th to mark the close of the section’s fiscal year. An evening of connection and sisterhood began with a video review of NCJW’s many accomplishments over more than a century. We celebrated the strength and legacy of NCJW as a national movement that has improved the lives of women, children and families all over the world.

Moving to a more local perspective, we enjoyed a delightful video interview featuring long-time NCJW Sacramento member Becky Goad, who shared memories of her time with NCJW as well as those of her mother, Jean Halfant. Jean “lived and breathed” NCJW according to Becky, and was a recipient of the highest NCJW honor, the Hannah G. Solomon award.

Other Closing Meeting highlights included:

• A year-in-review presentation celebrating the section’s community service, advocacy, and social programs and gatherings. Click here to view the presentation.
• An overview of NCJW National’s plan for organizational restructuring (“NCJW Forward”);
  Heartfelt tributes to each of our outgoing board members (Carol Goodman Gane, Beryl Michaels, Sunny Romer, Shirley Rosenbloom, and June Wiaz) as well as an expression of sincere appreciation for our outgoing President, Jessica Heskin for her dedication and tenacity over the last two years.
• Installation of the 2026-2028 Board
• A moving sing-along of “Teach Your Children” lead by Janice Prudhomme on the ukelele, and a reminder by one of our next-generation leaders, Lexi Guitierrez, not to take our hard won rights for granted.
• Attendees had an opportunity to see some of our section’s fascinating historical documents, and browse through the wonderful old recipes contributed to our Section’s beloved Heritage Cookbook. And, of course, there was plenty of schmoozing and tasty food to enjoy!
