Register today for this meaningful, fun and educational opportunity. Join us as we talk to our legislators and let them know we want a healthy, equitable and life affirming California for all.
This is why we advocate at the California legislature each year. We make a difference because we bring the Jewish values of tikkun olam into action. Here are some of the outcomes of the tireless efforts of advocates over the past few years:
- California’s uninsured rate fell to a historic low of 5.9% in 2024 following investments to expand access to health coverage
- Expanding Medi-Cal to undocumented children led to self reports of significant improvements in their health
- More Californians are exiting homelessness, with a 24% decline in youth homelessness since 2019 and a statewide 9% drop in overall unsheltered homelessness in 2025 — thanks to public investments
- California has doubled the production of new affordable homes in recent years with more counties becoming affordable for California households with middle and lower incomes.
- Enrollment in publicly funded child care has steadily increased following the partial expansion of subsidized child care spaces, with thousands more children getting the care that supports their healthy development and thousands more families have the economic security to thrive.
- California’s child poverty rate dropped by 40% in one year following the significant temporary expansion of the federal Child Tax Credit. California must continue to fight the assaults on reproductive freedom and expand access.
We celebrate these wins. But much more public investment is needed — even before accounting for the growing harm of federal funding cuts-to sustain these gains and meet promises made. California continues to have the highest poverty rate of the 50 states, tied with Louisiana, pointing to the need for state leaders to do more to help Californians meet basic needs. California must continue to fight the assaults on reproductive freedom and expand access.
