Join Us: Lobby Day 2020

Tuesday, May 19
Wednesday, May 20

LET YOUR VOICE BE HEARD! Please join us for NCJW CA Lobby Day 2020, when we will come together again from all corners of the state to make California work for all our residents, including the most vulnerable. Each year our gatherings make a meaningful impact on policymakers. Let’s make this one the best ever!

Astonishingly, despite its wealth, California has the highest poverty rate in the U.S. adjusting for cost-of-living and leads the nation in homelessness. Many of the very poor are women and, especially children, whose lives will be permanently diminished if they are denied the safety, stability, education, and other basic resources they need to thrive. As such, ending deep childhood poverty will continue to be a central thrust of our advocacy.

But California faces other major challenges as well such as the need for affordable early childcare and affordable housing, life-threatening climate change, immigrant integration, human trafficking and more. To pass our priority legislation, NCJW CA continues our active role in the California Interfaith Coalition that includes state-level organizations representing a wide array of faiths. We are also proud members of A Stronger California, a broad and successful coalition of women’s groups, social justice organizations, and others focused on issues affecting women, families, and children.

In an exciting one-and-a-half-day program, you will:

• learn the fundamentals of lobbying and the legislative/budget process
• gain a deeper understanding of the priority bills and issues and why they are so critical
• meet with your representatives to advocate for NCJW CA positions
• hear from legislators, high level legislative staff and leading social justice advocates
• network with other NCJW CA members and learn about innovative Section strategies
