NCJW California is not going to let a major pandemic stand in the way of our advocacy for the issues and people we care about. So we will be holding a virtual FREE NCJW Lobby Day on May 19!
In an unusual twist in an unusual year, national NCJW will be holding a national virtual FREE lobbying effort the following day, May 20, focused on voter engagement bills under consideration by Congress. A speaker from the NCJW national office will join us to explain those “asks” and we are hoping that many of our participants will treat May 20 as day two of our traditional advocacy effort.
California’s Lobby Day 2020 will have three COVID-related areas of concern:
• Deepen the safety net and extend to undocumented Californians.
• Expand and strengthen worker protections.
• Address the needs of homeless Californians and implement measures to prevent increased homelessness.
California’s Lobby Day will be conducted via Zoom (easy-to-follow tutorials are available for those who have not used Zoom). Participants will begin the day (9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.) with an information session. As usual, we will invite speakers from organizations leading the fight in each of our issue areas. We will also set aside time to talk about the do’s and don’ts of advocacy and how to be most effective in a virtual environment. Then in the afternoon (12:00 p.m.- 5:00 p.m.) some members from each section will virtually “meet” (either via Zoom or telephone) with legislators or legislative staff from their districts. All of us will also deluge the offices of the targeted legislators with emails and/or phone calls.
Clearly, this year the stakes for our state and our nation could not be higher. We hope you agree and will join us!
Registration is free for the 2020 NCJW California Virtual Lobby Day. PLEASE REGISTER BY MAY 15 SO WE WILL KNOW HOW MANY ARE ATTENDING. You must register to participate. You will receive confirmation after registering for the NCJW California Virtual Lobby Day.
