A large turnout of NCJW members, both longstanding and new, gathered at the Sacramento Section Closing Meeting on June 26 at the McKinley Village Clubhouse to celebrate “Stories and Sisterhood.” After a little noshing and schmoozing, we embarked on an evening of joy, connection and music.

Section President Jessica Heskin expressed appreciation to Andrea Segal for her many years of dedicated service to the Bridge to Success program, and then provided an update on the section’s work this year aimed at enhancing the quality of life for women, children, and families.

Next, members shared uplifting stories of the sisterhood created by our NCJW Sacramento section, with contributions from both longtime members who have maintained lasting connections and newer members currently building meaningful relationships.

Then it was time to recognize the nineteen women who recently graduated from the Fourth Cohort of the section’s Leadership Program. Ellen Savage and Eileen Jacobowitz outlined the objectives and curriculum of the program, while Rachel Bluth and Rachel Zerbo offered personal reflections on their experiences as participants this year. They each shared that they had learned skills in the training that they were able to immediately put to good use in the workplace.

Music added joy to the evening, with Cantor Alex Kurland leading us in singing the Shehechianu, and Janice Prudhomme concluding the event with a fun ukulele-led rendition of the Beatles’ “I Get By With a Little Help From My Friends.”

In addition, donations were collected for residents of Women’s Empowerment Trellis Gardens Housing, including paper towels, toilet paper, and gift cards for essential purchases.

It was a wonderful evening and a perfect reminder that we are stronger, more impactful, and more creative through the magic of sisterhood.
