Women Wage Peace Summer Mitzvah in a Minute (MIM)
July 22 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
This summer, NCJW Sacramento will present a creative MIM opportunity for NCJW members to contribute to a project that combines art and activism. On Sunday, July 22, we will decorate fabric squares with messages of peace and hope in support of the Piece for Peace project that began in Israel by a movement called Women Wage Peace.
Women Wage Peace is an organization that brings together Israeli and Palestinian women. Their Piece for Peace project began as a fun weekend project to bring women together from various backgrounds to create art with peace messages. It has since become an ongoing worldwide quilt project with a goal to collect “one million squares or a peace agreement— whichever comes first!” As of today, Women Wage Peace has received close to 10,000 squares, with about 200 completed quilts and many more waiting to be sewn.
The Piece for Peace project has expanded internationally to raise awareness around the world of women’s desire for peace in the Middle East. The premise is that women are expert at connecting seemingly disparate pieces of fabric to create a coherent and harmonious whole. What better way to visually communicate our longing for peace?
Join us for this fun and rewarding afternoon. You do not have to be an artist or quilter! All materials will be provided. Children are welcome! Please RVSP to Jessica Braverman Birch at firstname.lastname@example.org by July 18 so we can be sure to have enough materials. Include the names of all attendees (indicate if adult or child).
