Lobby Day 2019
May 20 - May 21
YOU can help make California just and compassionate with your passion and your voice. While California is the 5th largest economy of the world it has one of the highest rates of poverty in the nation. We can and must do something about the growing inequities which perpetuate cycles of poverty and pain. This year we have a Governor who cares about childhood poverty and families who are barely making it, understands the importance of accessible and affordable early childhood care and education, promises help for working parents and ending human trafficking. Let's help him pass the laws to make California a more just place to live. NCJW CA Lobby Day advocacy will focus on legislation addressing these issues. To help pass our priority legislation, NCJW CA is again partnering with A Stronger California (a broad coalition of women's groups, social justice organizations and others); the California Interfaith coalition initiated a few years ago by NCJW CA, California Women Lawyers, and other progressive groups.
In an exciting one-and one-half day program you will:
• learn the fundamentals of lobbying and the legislative/budget process
• gain a deeper understanding of the priority bills and issues and why they are so critical
• meet with your representatives to advocate for NCJW CA positions
• hear from legislators, high level legislative staff and leading social justice advocates
• network with other NCJW CA members and learn about innovate Section strategies.
We are so excited to announce that Senator Holly Mitchell will be the event's keynote speaker on May 20, 2019. This will be the last opportunity to hear this champion for women, children and families as she is termed out. Senator Mitchell is a fierce warrior in the fight to end deep childhood poverty. She authored many significant anti-poverty laws through the years and continues her advocacy to end poverty this session with landmark legislation.
