Founder’s Day 2018

April 8 @ 11:30 am - 2:30 pm

Join National Council of Jewish Women (NCJW) Sacramento as we celebrate Founder’s Day recognizing Hannah G Solomon who in 1893 along with other courageous women like herself, founded the National Council of Jewish Women, changing forever the role of Jewish women and the nature of volunteerism.

A Force for Change: Israel Through a Gender Lens

This year’s keynote speaker is Dina B. Charnin, NCJW Director of Israel Policy and Programs. Dina’s presentation, “A Force for Change: Israel Through a Gender Lens,” will showcase the growing power of women in Israel and provide insight into the issues facing Israeli women today. She will update us on NCJW’s Israel Granting Program (IGP) which supports progressive grassroots Israeli organizations that focus on women’s
empowerment, gender equality, and strengthening civil society in Israel.

With our grants to Israeli organizations, participation in advocacy coalitions, policy statements, and our pioneering work in education and research, NCJW is a leader of women’s and gender rights in Israel. For more than 70 years, we have been supporting women, children and families throughout Israeli society regardless of ethnicity, religion and economic status. We advocate for the equal status of women in the face of religious fundamentalism; women’s political leadership; women’s economic empowerment; LGBTQ rights; and educational opportunities for women.

Unsung Heroine

We also celebrate one of our own outstanding volunteers. This year’s Unsung Heroine is Becky Goad. Becky has been an active volunteer in our Section for 36 years. She is currently a member of Family Shalom and the Bridge to Success, Bulletin, and Communications Committees, as well as Sister Nora’s Team #4. We are most grateful for her keen eye as she so ably proofreads and edits the Bulletin and many other Section communications. Her passion lies particularly in support of Bridge to Success, but what truly makes Becky our Unsung Heroine is her unwavering commitment to NCJW.

NCJW members, families and friends of our honoree are invited to pay tribute to our unsung heroine with a donation in her honor and a sentence or two of congratulations.
